A Message from Us
On June 24, 2009, Nicole Lawrence (ND ’96) hosted the first organizing get together of the Notre Dame Club of New York (NDNY) Women Connect We invited a small number of ND women to this organizing event in the hopes of identifying members for the NDNY Women Connect steering committee. We asked attendees to participate if they were willing to help with organizing and launching this effort to the larger group of all women alumnae in the NYC area. We got a response rate of almost 50%, and lots of exuberant “regrets” from people expressing interest in participating in the future.
In July, we contacted women members of NDNY to invite them to gather in small groups for dinner as part of New York City’s Restaurant Week. We had four gatherings at some of the best restaurants in the city, and everyone who attended loved the chance to get acquainted in a more meaningful way than is possible at a large happy hour. We identified a “table captain” for each dinner from among volunteers that had attended our initial gathering.
We are still in search of a steering committee. Our efforts to date have been led by officers and commissioners from NDNY, each of whom already has existing club commitments. We are hoping this new University initiative will broaden and deepen the involvement of women in the New York City area in club activities. NDNY is always happy to program additional events of interest to alums … especially if those alums are willing to lend a hand to plan and pull off the event!
